When thinking of cities to visit in France most people would consider Paris, Marseille or Nice before they would consider Lyon. Here are 7 reasons why you should add Lyon to the top of your wanderlust list:

1. You can find views like this.
This is the view from the journey to the Basilique de Notre Dame in the Fourvière district of Lyon. From the Croix-Rousse area right over to the airport, you have a spectacular view of the whole city and surrounding areas and, on a good day, you can even see some alps in the distance!

2. The best food in the world.
Named the food capital of France, and even the world, Lyon has a restaurant to suit any culinary desire you may have. The city is full of restaurants from the cute, traditional Bouchons in Vieux Lyon to the grand, michelin-starred restaurants of the famous Paul Bocuse, you are certain to find something to enjoy.

3. Stunning architecture round every corner.
Walking around the streets of the city, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the beautiful buildings around you. The stunning architecture which lines Lyon's streets is breathtaking and round every corner, you'll no doubt find a stunning cathedral standing tall in front of you.

4. You can be a tourist to your heart's content.
Just as Lyon doesn't lack culture and beautiful architecture, there are also plenty of touristy things for you to do while in the city. If you're sick of the Lyon cuisine and fancy some home comforts, there are loads of Irish or Scottish bars in the city. There's also a huge ONLY LYON sign at the Confluence Museum for you to pose at, so what are you waiting for?

5. You can get lost in the historical surroundings.
In the old town (Vieux Lyon) you can find old hidden passageways (Traboules) which cut through buildings and stunning courtyards to link up the different streets. These passageways are hidden behind normal looking doors so make sure you're not just walking into someone's home by accident!

6. It's easy on the eyes.
As far as cities go, Lyon is up there with the most beautiful. From the tree-lined riverbanks of the Rhône and Saône to the pretty fountain in the Place des Jacobins, it's not hard to see why tourists and travellers alike return year on year to the city.

7. It's the best city in the world!
Okay, I might be biased, but you really need to visit Lyon. It's a city of all seasons - come in Spring or Summer and you can take sunny walks in the Parc de la Tête d'Or or cycle along the riverbank, come in Autumn or Winter and you can marvel at the spectacle that is the Fête des Lumières or visit the cute christmas markets in Place Carnot.
